Black Soul by Kiru Taye

Tara is an ambitious woman with her life set out ahead of her. She wants to make partner at the law firm she works in and prefers facts and figures over fairy tales. Everything changes when she meets Lami and M’na at a club when out with friends. She might not realise the danger she’s in, or remember her saviour from her childhood, but she soon finds out just how serious he is.

This prequel was a short introductory story into the world of supernatural beings. It is sometimes hard to get complicated plots and characters into a short story and the text ends up feeling a little cramped. This story was definitely filled up with new characters and a whole new world, and I did have to concentrate to keep up, but the plot was rich in content. Tara would benefit from a little time spent with her character, and she looks like a promising protagonist, sassy and strong. M’nu was definitely a man that I wanted to hear more about. I look forward to future instalments.
