The Spirit Guide by Elizabeth Davies

I received this book for free in return for an honest review.

Seren has grown up with her unusual gift and has learnt to hide it for the most part. When she is sent to live in Hay castle, she struggles to hide her gift, which soon becomes both a curse and a blessing. Her attempts to hide herself in the castle are ruined when one touch from Vaughn releases visions of such harrowing nature that she suspects the man is up to no good. With help from the man she loves she delves into the secrets that have been tearing people from their rightful place in the afterlife, at great cost to her health.

This is a historical romance with a difference. The supernatural/paranormal elements to the story create mystery and intrigue, while the romance gives it passion and flair. This is an unusual story, and I was hooked from the very beginning. The danger that Seren is put in by the spirits, through no fault of her own, leave her susceptible to accusations of witchcraft and sorcery, but all she wants to do is follow her heart. The historic details in the book are accurate which makes the story feel authentic and the characters are lively, even the dead ones.
