Matteal, the leader of the group of Arach that have come to the Blue Zone for the breeding program, doesn’t realise that he has an admirer. Gilt is a spy who doesn’t connect well with other people. Her life revolves around making sure the Markist groups don’t attack the Blue Zone but when she gets the opportunity to save three women from a brutal death she embraces it and calls upon the Arach for help.
Matteal is a sweet character and having already met him in the first book of the series I really enjoyed getting to know him. Gilt is a complex woman with issues that invade on her life, suffocating her until she is insular and alone. Her feelings for Matteal take her out of her hard-cased shell and make her vulnerable once more.
This is a beautiful story, well told with plenty of interspecies romance. The post-apocalyptic world that Love has created is a good basis for the story. The book needs a quick polish but don’t let that stop you from enjoying it. If you are looking for a short romance fix, this will satisfy you.
