When Katie loses her family in a fire in their home, she doesn’t think her heart will ever mend. She goes back to live with her parents and soon finds a job caring for another family. She quickly realises that she has more in common with Joseph Lapp, her employer, than tragedy. She falls in love with his family and then the man himself.
The story is beautifully told and Katie is a warm, emotional character with plenty of substance. We don’t get to see much from Joseph’s point of view but his character is likable all the same.
This is another sweet Amish romance from Ruth Price. I don’t know what it is about her books that make me enjoy them so much; I’m not Amish or even Christian. The book makes you feel that everything is right with the world; the world the author depicts is a safe and sensible one, I would even say idyllic. The only downside to the book is that it is short and I did read the first few chapters of the next book available in the series, and yes, I want it.
