The House on Cold Hill by Peter James

Ollie can’t believe his luck when he purchased Cold Hill House, the price had been a steal. He soon found the renovations eating into his pocket but they were the least of his worries. He begins to think he is going mad as his business teeters on the edge of ruin and mysterious shadows follow him around the house. Can he and his family survive the curse?

This was the perfect Halloween novel. It is a creepy modern gothic with a twisted ghostly plot. Ollie is a practical character who finds it hard to believe what is happening to himself and his family while his daughter, Jade, quickly immerses herself in the strangeness.

The book was creepy and ghostly but it didn’t scare me. I think more ghostly interaction would have sent a few more icy shivers down my back as I read but otherwise a great story with likable characters.
