The Sinner’s Touch (A Manwhore Series #2) by Apryl Baker

When Angel steps out of the bar for a breath of fresh air she has no clue as to what is waiting for her. An unfortunate case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time sends her life spiralling out of control when she comes face to face with Boston’s most notorious serial killer, body in hand. When the police arrive, she has to deal with her second shock of the day and she has no idea that her week is about to get a whole lot worse.

Angel is a sweet character who has a back story that won’t let her move on and Kade’s interruption to her life is an emotional one. Kade appears, at first, to be a little on the shallow side but when the events of the past unravel the reader gets to see the inner turmoil.

I like the way Baker has turned a thriller into a romance with a strong lead detective element. The Russian brothers are a nice change from the all-American boy and I look forward to hearing the rest of the Kincaid stories.

The Sinners Touch

Blood Vow (Black Dagger Legacy #2) by J. R. Ward

When Axe joins the Black Dagger Brotherhood’s Training program he intends to stay at arm’s length from the others especially Peyton and his Glymera pals. When a chance meeting throws him in the path of the lovely Elise all bets are off. Not only does he become her bodyguard, but he also finds a connection that he’d never believed was possible.

This is not just a romance but a coming of age novel. Axe finds more out about himself than he knew existed and becomes a valuable member of the team through his brave actions. Elise is yet another strong female as per Ward’s usual style but her character is also determined and challenging. The bond between the pair is strong but the reasons for them not to be together are getting in the way, causing a friction for all those around.

The story is yet another beautifully romantic episode to the Black Dagger Legacy with its intricately crafted world and amazing full-bodied characters.

Blood Vow

The Beast (The Black Dagger Brotherhood series #14) by J. R. Ward

Not everyone in the Black Dagger Mansion has a t-rex for an alter ego and sometimes allowances need to be made but when Rhage stops listening to his brothers on the battlefield something needs to be done. Mary seems to have her own problems back at Safe Place and she isn’t ready to drop them. Can the pair open up before it’s too late?

This book makes a beautiful addition to the Black dagger Brotherhood series. Rhage, beauty and the beast all wrapped into one, is on the verge of discovering something but being a typical male he is happy to hide it under the proverbial carpet.

Ward has managed to not only keep this series alive, but she has found a way to keep each novel in it compelling. This isn’t an easy feat this far down the line and this story just proves her dedication to her work.

Grab the tissues, it’s going to get a little emotional.

Blood Kiss (Black Dagger Legacy #1) by J. R. Ward

When Paradise enrolls into the Black Dagger training program, the first person she looks for is the shy guy she’d met at her receptionist posting. The person who first catches her eye, though, is her annoying friend Peyton. Within minutes of the First Night starting things begin to look bad but Paradise doesn’t have any intention of heading the same way the rest of the glymera females had done for centuries and so she fights.

This spin-off series fits nicely into the Black Dagger Brothers series and offers some new characters with needs of their own. As with all of Ward’s books, there are plenty of adult scenes to ramp up the romance and the intensity of her character building has remained strong. Her strong male and female leads are powerfully driven and exciting.

If you are looking to scratch a romantic itch with a little hardcore vampire action and you want to immerse yourself in the well-created and vastly detailed world look no further.

Blood Kiss

Two Cabins, One Lake (An Alaskan Romance #1) by Shaye Marlow

Helly isn’t a people person so living in the middle of the forest with a lake view in her very own cabin is just perfect. When a helicopter flies over to deliver a ton of people, music, and fun Helly is steaming angry and ready to beat someone. It isn’t until someone tries to make off with her canoe that she really flips.

This is one of the funniest books I’ve ever read. Helly’s character is full of feisty quips and a stunning imagination when it comes to payback. I loved the interaction with her brothers and the conflict between her and the hot neighbour. I did, however, think the steamy scenes were a little long and ended up skimming through them.

I am giving this book a five-star rating because Marlow has cornered the market with this type of humour and it made me laugh-out-loud several times over.

Risk (Mageri) by Dannika Dark

Ella is a difficult learner that Hannah can’t wait to be rid of. When Hannah arranges for Simon to train her learner, he doesn’t know what to expect but he certainly doesn’t expect her to be deaf. A mage with disabilities is unheard of in their world and he sets about putting the learner to the test. He soon finds out that not only is she a brilliant fighter who can compensate for her inability to hear but they have a unique gift between them.

Stepping out of Silver’s life and into Simon’s we get a different perspective of the Mageri world. Simon is the ultimate playboy with a liking for leather trousers and weird humour but he’s also a strategist which makes him one of the most interesting characters in Dark’s Mageri world.

Ella is a fantastic strong female with a unique sense of strength, humour, and abilities. Dark has a real talent for crafting brilliant, strong female leads and Ella has to be one of my favourites. She matches Simon’s intellect and compliments him in every way making me itch to read more about the couple.

The story has an ongoing theme to fit into the series but it also really explores a different side to the Mageri world and with every story I read this series just gets better.

Bad War by Summer Cooper & Stephen Kingston

Zeb is sent home from Vietnam broken and bruised. All he wants from life is to recuperate at home with his loving wife Mary and their new son Joshua. He soon finds that the townsfolk he grew up with have gone a little mad and the only way to escape the madness is to seclude himself with his family. When his friend arrives on the doorstep having just been released from duty, he welcomes him in with open arms but Cherokee Joe is about to burst his idyllic life’s bubble.

This book was not at all what I was expecting. I won’t give away any spoilers but it definitely surprised me. The beginning, where Zeb is in Vietnam, was quite refreshing and a complete change from what came later. The sex scenes jarred slightly because the romance between the couple was a little stark but they weren’t overdone.

The cover suggests that the book is marketed at women but I don’t feel the story is aimed at either gender so keep an open mind guys.
