Frost Security: Richard by Glenna Sinclair

Jessica’s simple, happy life begins to disappear the moment her silent business partner dies. A few calls she can handle but when her friend suggests a security firm, she figures it can’t hurt. Inextricably being drawn to her security detail while dealing with ever increasing threats all semblance of her peaceful, happy life disappears. It doesn’t take long before the world as she knows it is shattered.

This is a romantic suspense, and the story contains plenty of suspense, threat, and malice but the romance is a little light for my taste. There’s no magical build-up and I think that lets the book down. Jessica is a nice enough character, and she is going through something traumatic but I would still expect to feel more during the so-called romantic moments. Richard is a fairly well-developed character, and I wanted to hear more angst, more feeling.

The ongoing story that will carry the series is sound and I would like to know what happens next but this particular story ended without really resolving the two main characters’ issues and that was disappointing. Still, the next book in the series may well appear on my Kindle.

Fight (Caged Trilogy #2) by H. G. Lynch

Having been caught and made prisoner once again, Tilly is helpless. The fact that Dominic is incarcerated with her makes everything worse. She doesn’t dare resist the witches request because Dominic will pay for it in pain and the witches know just how to cause pain.

The first book in the series brought up plenty of questions and many of them are answered in this story. Tilly’s whole life has been one long sentence of misery and servitude but that doesn’t stop her falling in love. Her strength and endurance shine through even when others around her turn their backs.

Frank’s orders cause major conflict and Tilly is still pulled between the two male wolves like an eternal triangle. This is not just a love story. Lynch is particularly adept at pulling readers into the action and creating an addictive story.

Fight

The Blackwater Legacy (Bloodlines Legacy #2) by Apryl Baker

When Saidie starts college, she meets a group of people who she becomes firm friends with. They all seem to have a supernatural element to them and she doesn’t mind being the only normal human amongst them. The trouble is she isn’t a regular human, but it takes the not so fresh, recently buried, animated corpse of her dead dog to tell her that something is amiss.

When Alex’s uncle sends Saidie away to learn how to use her newly awakened gift of necromancy, she hopes to be able to control her unpredictable gift but something terrible is going on in the colonial plantation and she is trapped.

Saidie’s gift makes for an interesting character and I was hooked on the story from the start. Full zombie action is interwoven with love interest and although they seem an unlikely mix they work. This book was even better than the first in the series and I can’t wait to read the next. Baker has an addictive style of writing that leaves you hungry for more.

Run (Caged Trilogy #1) by H. G. Lynch

Tilly finally escapes her captors and runs for freedom. The forest, usually her friend, seems alien and full of dark surprises but just as she thinks she’ll succumb to the darkness she is rescued. Three handsome brothers are among her saviours and it doesn’t take her long to lose her heart but with a past that is hell-bent on catching up with her can she afford to stay and risk her friends’ lives?

This paranormal story is a little different, and it offers a new perspective on the young adult and paranormal genres. Lynch unwinds the story at a fairly fast pace but allows us to indulge in a little romance in between. The imagery is full and expansive without going into long description and the scenes are vibrant.

I’ve read books by this author before and she has a very fresh and lively character development skill. Tilly, Spencer, and Dominick are easy to relate to and very likable and I’m looking forward to seeing Tilly get her man in the next instalment.

Kitty Cat (Age of Night #1) by May Sage

When the wolves come for Rye’s pride he’ll do anything to protect them so when Daunte suggests staying with a friend of his he jumps at the opportunity. When he meets Aisling, his tiger wants to play but she isn’t interested and with his beta in between them he’s doomed.

I’ve read a few of Sage’s books and I have to say this is my favourite. The romance is sweet, the characters are warm, and realistic and the whole setup is agreeable. I particularly like Aisling’s backstory and as shifter books go this one definitely has something different to offer.

Kitty Cat

The Blackburne Legacy (Bloodlines Legacy #1) by Apryl Baker

Alex has been locked up for years and when she’s finally released, she thinks it’s an opportunity to put the past behind her and get on with living her life. Within hours of settling into her new home with her brother trouble finds her and if it isn’t the bad boy Luka with his dangerous gypsy magic, then it is the fact that she’s concealing the madness that seems to be creeping back. The difference is that this time, Alex has friends who also have some pretty crazy secrets.

Alex is a complex character who doesn’t know or understand herself so her mysteries are unraveled slowly, much to the reader and the character’s surprise. Her past doesn’t just come back to bite her it barrels into her like a freight train and changes everyone’s lives which makes for a real action read.

I didn’t realise how much I enjoyed the story until I got to the end when the book hangover set in. Baker has a knack for hooking you in without you realising it so I can’t wait to read the next book.

The Gift (Mageri #5.5) by Dannika Dark

It’s Christmas time and the whole extended family and friends group in the Mageri world gets together to celebrate. Simon is his usual sweet, funny self, Justus shows more romance than he ever thought was possible and Adam is still making googly eyes at Sadie but what really steals the show is Silver and Logan’s desire to have a child of their own.

This short Christmas addition to the series had me all sweetened up by the cute antics of each family member but if you’ve read Dark’s other series Seven (and I highly recommend that you do) then you will understand why I cried at the ending. Wow. This book might be smaller than Dark’s previous books, but it packs one hell of a punch.
