Keystone (Crossbreed #1) By Dannika Dark

Raven is a crossbreed who kills her own kind, but she only kills those who hurt humans. She’s kept herself hidden from the authorities for so long that she’s gotten used to being on her own and when someone asks her to put her talents to use, she can’t seem to be the person they are looking for.

This is a brilliant start to a new series, and it has all my favourite elements in starting with romance. This paranormal romance incudes many strong characters and a storyline that pulls on the heartstrings as well as making the reader laugh. Of course, I’ve come to expect nothing less from Dark and I look forward to reading the next book in the series. If you get the opportunity to listen to the audio version you won’t be disappointed.

Impractical Magic by Vivienne Savage

River is a witch who spends most of her time ogling her sexy neighbour. When she finds out that his ex-wife is trying to hex him back into their bad relationship she intervenes using her magical abilities. Zac, her sexy neighbour, is a shifter panther who has no idea what his ex-wife is or what she’s up to.

This is a cute, sexy romance with plenty of witchy action and the odd feline thrown in. The plot is simple but works really well and the romance is sweet. River is a strong female and Zac took a back seat in the fight scenes, despite being muscled and fit, which was refreshing. River’s curves and love of food was also a nice change. If you like shifter romances and cats, then this is for you.

Moonborn (The Proving)by Marina Finlayson

Garth is the odd one out in his family, having grown up as the only human in a pack full of werewolves, most of which are of the wolf born variety. He is desperate to become one of them, if not to be on an equal footing to Rhys, who constantly demeans him, but also for Carly, Rhys’s mate. After years of being snubbed by Carly, or even worse treated like a little boy, he decides that getting bitten is the only thing that will make his life complete.

In some ways, this is one of the best werewolf books that I’ve read because the wolf’s nature is described, in detail, with such a force. From transition to hunting, nothing is glossed over and it gives the werewolf world a realistic feeling. The thing that I didn’t like about the book was that I was invested in Garth, I liked the character and wanted to know more, but for some reason the author skipped through years and I felt like I was missing out.

I am very interested in what the series will bring and I hope that Garth gets some love action before his life is speed-written away.
